A new poem... after a long time

As usual, it's been a long time since I posted although this time it's been 3 years. So sad. I know no one probably looks at this blog and that's just fine by me. Anyway, here's a poem I've been working on the last couple of days as I continue to try to get used to the idea of a new little person inside me.

Blood throbs in my belly,
the swelling pool of my being,
Pulsating around you,
a river of life for me,
and for you as you grow.

You hear my blood-river in your ears
As I sway to the music of life
As I learn to love you, though I cannot see you
Cannot feel you
Cannot even imagine you.

I haven’t felt any butterflies or other flutterings
But I know you’re swimming and dancing
Kicking and swaying to the beat
Like a ballerina in the deep lake of my being
Sucking your thumb, singing in water and darkness
But I cannot feel any of it,
Not yet.

I do not know who you are
Or who you will be
It seems to me that many people are
Infatuated with the idea of their child
But you and I know
Love must be learned
